“Idita-Read to College!” |

H.A.P.Y. Notes |
 |
|
Through the
month of March we will be reading our way around Montana
to visit each of our adopted colleges. We need everyone
to join in and read at home each evening to make sure we
make it all the way around our “Idita-read”
course by our celebration on March 26. Be watching
your “Monday Folders” and our Hillcrest Connection
for more information on this exciting event. |
This month the H.A.P.Y. After-School program will be
working on a variety of things. Each Wednesday they
will have their physical fitness activities, Thursdays
will be devoted to art, 4-H and Federation of Galaxy
Explorers; and Mondays and Tuesday’s will be activities
based around March events and holidays. Remember, there
is no school on Monday, March 22. |

Build
your child’s research skills–and love of reading |
|
Sometimes,
going beyond the book is just what your child needs to
amp up her love of reading. Does your child have a
favorite book? Take her to the library or use your
computer to research:
•
The setting. Is
the book set in a real town? Have your child look up
information about the town. Was it accurately
portrayed, or were aspects of it changed?
•
The main character.
Was the main character based on a real person? Try to
find a biography of the person. How did the book differ
from reality?
•
The author.
Encourage your child to put herself in the author’s
shoes. What other books has the author written? What
does the author most like to write about? Why does your
child think the author enjoys that subject?
